CIFAR Workshop on Astronomy/Cosmology and Artificial Intelligence

Friday, June 3, 2022 - 8:00am - 4:30pm EDT

You are welcome to participate in-person or virtually.

Overview

In July 2020, researchers from CIFAR’s program in Gravity & the Extreme Universe (GEU) came together with Canada CIFAR AI chairs and other AI and biomedical experts in a virtual roundtable to explore how the algorithms developed and used for astronomical / cosmological data analysis can be applied to similarly complex problems in biomedicine, and vice versa. This roundtable helped launch fruitful new research collaborations across disciplines.

Building on previous efforts, this 1-day workshop will further expand the conversations between astronomers/cosmologists and AI researchers. Through panels and breakout group discussions, GEU members, CCAI chairs, and other astronomy and AI researchers from academia and industry will convene to discuss new and optimized ways of using AI/ML in astronomy, as well as opportunities to apply concepts and techniques of physics/astronomy to the theoretical underpinnings of AI/ML.

CIFAR is a Canadian-based global research organization that convenes extraordinary minds to address the most important questions facing science and humanity.

We are supported by the governments of Canada, Alberta and Quebec, as well as foundations, individuals, corporations and Canadian and international partner organizations.
