  • Baobao Zhang
    • Public Opinion Toward Artificial Intelligence (view paper here). This is the working paper I have been writing for the Oxford Handbook of AI Governance this summer. I'm also editing the Handbook. It is a paper that reviews existing works on public opinion toward AI.
    • Mini book proposal (view proposal here). This is a short proposal for a book (750 words) I'm writing about institutional trust in AI. The handbook chapter has informed how I plan to write the book.
    • Inspiration Predictors of public climate change awareness and risk perception around the world (view paper here). This is actually the inspiration for my work. It's not about AI at all! I had previously worked with this team on public opinion toward climate change and best practices in climate change communication. I'm really inspired by their work and hope to do similar work in the AI policy space. In fact, my team is launching a survey in the US, EU, and China this fall.

Based on the feedback we've received from everyone so far, our plan is to roll out a spring series using the same format we adopted for our fall meetings.  We are proposing to kick off the new year with sessions focused on ICTs and equity and will be reaching out to various folks to help shape and lead those meetings.

  • We assign one fellow to be the discussant
  • The speaker will have 20 minutes to present her work and situate it within the literature and the framework of the program.
  • The discussant/commentator then follows with 20 minutes to react to what was presented (both during the meeting and the pre-read materials).  Their role as commenter or discussant is to highlight alternate (complementary or opposing) approaches, findings, etc. coming from their own disciplines or perspectives. Commenters are asked to frame their remarks using a framework of: Oyster, Poetry, Picasso.
  • Oyster: Something from the paper or presentation gave way to a new idea (a pearl!) for you.
  • Poetry:  The value in a poem (or a paper) is what it evokes in the reader
  • Picasso: Good artists copy; great artists steal - or the Banksy modified Bad version (the bad artists imitate, the great artists steal)!
